One week ago, my daughter Mariel, 17 yrs old  and currently on her 1st year  2nd semester  course  IT at STI College , General Santos City handed me an invitation letter from her school. As I read the invitation it says, ... we will hold  a Parenting Seminar and Parents -Teachers Conference on January 22,2011. The seminar will be on " Value of Good Parenting". Listen and learn from the point of view of the invited speaker to help us understand our children.

At first I'm hesitant to come but as days  nearing and through the day to day consistent reminder  my daughter made to me,  I attended the seminar with my sister Marjorie who got two students also in same College.   As we arrived  at the College premises, the registrant officer is very courteous   guiding us to register and then allow one student guide us to the seminar venue. The national anthem is being played when we come in then followed by a prayer. Then the program moderator  introduced the speaker .  She is Ms Edna from San Jose Recolitos University  of Cebu.  She is a very  good speaker.,lively  and made her audience awake until 12 noon without getting tired of listening to her because she made herself and family as the best example of her talk.  I consider myself  lucky to be able to attend the Parental Seminar and thanks STI  launched this seminar because it  adds knowledge and educate parents concerning parenting.  Here, I am sharing to you readers all I heard from said seminar.

Parenting is not an easy task for both mother and father. It's not as easy as ABC and counting 123 . It's a very laborious task and does not end. It's a continuous task never ending,  while still living. To be a parent is a privilege and child's welfare is the biggest responsibility .  The parent's care , determines how  strong and healthy is the child, the parents influence on words and acts determines the child's intellect and character plus the invironmental factors.
The seminar tackles first how man got woman  and Genesis 2:18-25 explains.".God found out that it's not good that man to be alone so He caused Adam to have deep slept and then  took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which  the Lord God had taken from man  He made into a  woman. And Adam said  " This is now bone of my bones  and flesh of my flesh, she shall be called  Woman because she was taken out of man."   Therefore man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

As human beings, we all are made for relationships. At the time man and woman unite through marriage they form a family. And this family is very important . God gives us family. Nobody selects family. It's God given . The head of the family are the parents  and  as parents, we must know  the purpose of God for giving the family .  Here are the Four purposes of God for you and my  family.
  1. The family is a shelter from storms.  It is a shelter because children can take refuge in the family whenever there is change, failure and rejection. Parents have to hear their children. Hug them when they need affection . Help them  at all  time they needed and give them hope, courage to do things and  survive.
  2. The family is a learning center for life.  It is like a garden, a garden of growing people. Parents should take charge of their kids. Proverbs 13:24 "He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him , disciplines him promptly" Parents should and must discipline every child they have  and need to move kids from 3 stages from parent control to self control and to God control. Here, both parents and child grow intellectually, physically , spiritually and environmentally. Both learn relationship, character  and values  from the family.
  3. The family is a place to play . As couples  Proverbs 5:18  says.." Be happy with your wife and find your joy with the girl you love and married" . Psalm 127:3-5 says .."Children are gift from God; they are His rewards. Children born to a young man are like sharp arrows to defend him. Happy is the man who have quiver for all of them...."
  4. The family is a launch pad for ministry.  The family must be God fearing and prayerful. Parents must teach their children about God  The greatest gift your children can have is not your wealth but you as a Godly parent encouraging them to serve the Lord together as family.                                                     1 Peter 3:7.." Husbands dwell with them with understanding , giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessels, and as being heirs together  of the grace of life , that your prayers  may not be hindered." Joshua 24:15 .." as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."                                                         An emphasis to parents, the top priority in life is not job.  IT MUST BE   GOD, SPOUSE and PARENTS  and CHILDREN and  MINISTRY.

Fluvial parade?  What is it? Fluvial means found in water or stream  while parade  means an organized procession of people celebrating a special occasion and often includes decorated vehicles or floats. To sum it all, fluvial parade is a procession of people celebrating a special occasion riding or aboard in boats or ships.

Fluvial parade 2011 for Sr. Sto Nino at Bula, General  Santos City  is a long wait celebration for all catholic devotees celebrating the fiesta of   the saint  every  15th of January.  The celebration started with a morning mass at Bula Parish Church then followed by a procession of the little black Sto Nino going to General Santos City  Queen Tuna Park (previously known as Lion's Beach) where throngs of people gathered. From there , the amphibian vehicle transport the image of Sto. Nino  to the carrier vessel "Golden Sea " owned by Mr. Larry and Aurea Damalerio.

The arrival and acceptance of  the image of Sr. Sto Nino aboard "Golden Sea" is memorable for me and I consider myself  lucky  to be given the privilege to witness the undying faith of people to the little Sto  Nino. You can see the glow on people's faces  sharing an atmosphere  of happiness within as the image  been accepted and carried and lodged in for awhile.in "Golden Sea".  Although I'm used to participate on most of the  fluvial parades with my husband and children aboard participating boats and vessels  but my experience this fluvial  parade 2011 is remarkable one.  My first time to be in fluvial parade with  Sr.Sto. Nino in same vessel.

As everybody see, the patron saint Sr. Sto Nino has a special place on the vessel's deck.. The platform is elevated and nicely decorated with fresh flowers  and the saint's image is in the center. (See pictures i have taken  from my camera)

Then the fluvial  parade started from  Queen tuna park beach where hundreds of fishing vessels, boats, bancas in different sizes paraded   following  "Golden Sea ", the image carrier, who leads the journey.

The fluvial parade is a solemn one, novena is being chant on air. Much more when the gozos is being sang. you will feel how the people of God seek His mercy. I always recall this lines, a very touching one..if you  sing this through  the heart , you will really cry.. " Kanamo malooy ka unta  nga Kanimo nangilaba...Kanamo malooy ka unta nga Kanimo nangilaba..."     where devotees waved their handkerchiefs. on air. Then after ,  the sinulog dance started  accompanied by the sinulog music beat  played on air. While  dance ongoing , foods  were served to visitors  and guest aboard . This time I have a chance to roam around and  got these memorable pics.. The parade still proceeding   going to the designated area  of Sarangani Bay . Here , lots of fishing vessels , boats and bancas  on the go just behind the carrier vessel..of  the Sto Nino.

As soon as the carrier vessel reaches the designated area of the bay, it  slows down and made a U turn   which means that the fluvial parade is up to that part only and have to return back to Queen tuna park beach . All vessels follows upon seeing Golden Sea made a U turn.  Few minutes then ,after the arrival of the vessel at the beach,  the decorated amphibian vehicle could be seen approaching the carrier vessel of the image. Then it shipsided and the image is then transported back going to the Parish  Church of Bula.   VIVA PIT SENOR!!
